SMiHA at the BAD Annual Conference: Spreading the Microbiome Magic in Manchester

The British Association of Dermatology (BAD) Annual Conference in Manchester is a highlight in the dermatological calendar, drawing professionals from around the world. This year, the Skin Microbiome in Healthy Ageing (SMiHA) network proudly participated as a vendor. Our aim was simple: to introduce who we are, highlight our mission, and inform attendees about our funding opportunities, all while engaging with the vibrant dermatology community.

Set up at the Manchester Central Convention Complex, our booth was designed to attract and inform. With eye-catching displays, detailed posters, and interactive screens, we were ready to engage with dermatologists, researchers, and industry professionals. Our team was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and eager to connect with the conference attendees.

At our booth, we focused on introducing SMiHA as a dynamic and supportive network. We shared our vision of understanding and promoting the role of the skin microbiome in maintaining healthy skin throughout the ageing process. Our team engaged visitors in discussions about the significance of the skin microbiome and how our network aims to support cutting-edge research in this field.

Highlighting our funding opportunities was a core part of our participation. We detailed the various grants and fellowships SMiHA offers, aimed at supporting innovative projects that explore the skin microbiome's role in healthy ageing. Our team provided information on the application process, eligibility criteria, and the types of research we are looking to support. This generated significant interest among researchers eager to secure funding for their projects.

Throughout the conference, we engaged in numerous conversations with attendees, answering questions and exploring potential collaborations. We distributed informative brochures that outlined our network’s mission, the benefits of joining SMiHA, and details about our funding opportunities. It was encouraging to see the high level of interest and enthusiasm for our work.

In addition to manning our booth, our team also took the opportunity to attend various sessions and learn from other experts in the field. The breadth of topics covered, from innovative treatments for chronic skin conditions to the latest advancements in cosmetic dermatology, was truly inspiring. These sessions reinforced the importance of staying at the forefront of scientific discovery and integrating new knowledge into our work at SMiHA.

As the conference drew to a close, the SMiHA team reflected on a successful and rewarding experience. We had effectively introduced our network, highlighted our mission, and showcased the funding opportunities we offer. The event underscored the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing dermatological research and promoting healthy ageing.

Participating in the BAD Annual Conference was a significant step towards expanding the SMiHA network and supporting innovative research. We left Manchester with new connections, a deeper understanding of the current landscape in dermatology, and a renewed commitment to fostering collaboration and innovation in the field. The future looks bright for SMiHA, and we are excited to continue building on the momentum gained at this influential event.
